“Train the Teacher”
The Cascade Model Teacher Training
The Cascade Model of Teacher Training is a structural framework and top-down professional development approach where experts train Master Trainers who then train Secondary Trainers, eventually reaching large number of Teachers.
Teacher professional development is crucial for sustained improvements in educational quality. In the Indian context, where the scale of teacher training is vast, the cascade model emerges as the most viable option. While the cascade model is favoured for its scalability and cost-effectiveness, it is often criticised for ‘Cascade Loss’, which can be understood as the difference in participants’ levels of understanding from one level to the next as the training moves through multiple levels of cascade. Think is effectively working in creating a framework to measure and calculate Cascade Loss to improve training quality in the cascade model of teacher development.

Education plays a crucial role in the development of society, and teachers are the backbone of the education system. The “Train the Teacher” model focuses on enhancing teachers’ skills, knowledge, and classroom practices to improve student learning outcomes.
To bring amazing Difference in the Quality of Education, we Empower Teachers by providing extensive training on teaching methods and using digital tools effectively. Through these Trainings Teachers can now customize their lessons, track students’ progress, and adapt their teaching methods to individual learning needs. The interactive nature of digital classrooms has reinvented teaching, making it more dynamic and innovative.
We design and implement programs to improve teachers’ skills, knowledge, and classroom practices so they can deliver better education to students. This program proposes a structured Teacher Capacity Building Model aimed at improving the quality of education in government schools. The initiative focuses on enhancing teaching practices, strengthening foundational learning, and improving student outcomes through continuous teacher training and mentoring.
The program aligns with the priorities of the Department of School Education Andhra Pradesh and national goals such as Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (FLN).
It’s a capacity-building model where:
-
Experts train a group of teachers
-
Those teachers apply new methods in classrooms
-
Continuous support, mentoring, and feedback to improve their performance
The idea is simple:
Better-trained teachers → Better teaching → Better student outcomes
It is a structured program where educators are trained, mentored, and supported in areas like:
-
Teaching methods (how to explain concepts clearly)
-
Classroom management
-
Student engagement techniques
-
Use of technology in teaching
-
Assessment and evaluation methods
The main goal is to improve student learning outcomes by strengthening Teachers. Instead of only focusing on students, these programs:
-
Build teachers’ confidence
-
Introduce modern teaching strategies
-
Encourage interactive and activity-based learning
-
Help teachers adapt to curriculum changes
A typical Program includes:
-
Workshops & Training Sessions – Practical teaching strategies
-
Demonstration Classes – Model lessons
-
Mentoring & Coaching – Continuous support
-
Feedback & Evaluation – Improving teaching quality
-
Teaching Resources – Lesson plans, tools, materials
Target Beneficiaries
-
Government School Teachers (Primary, Upper Primary, High School)
-
Students (Grades 1–10)
-
Headmasters and School Leaders
Estimated Coverage:
-
25,000 Schools
-
2,00,000 Teachers
-
20,00,000 Students
Simple Flow of the Model
Assess → Train → Practice → Support → Improve → Repeat
Why This Model Works
-
Scalable (can reach many teachers)
-
Practical (focus on classroom application)
-
Sustainable (continuous improvement cycle)
How the Model Works in Government Schools
1
System-Level Planning
Programs are usually led by:
-
State Education Departments
-
National bodies like NCERT
-
District-level institutions (DIETs)
They align training with:
-
Curriculum standards
-
Learning goals under National Education Policy 2020
Foundational Literacy & Numeracy (FLN) targets
2
Cascade Training Structure
This is the backbone of most government programs:
National/State Experts → Master Trainers → Cluster/Block Resource Persons → School Teachers
-
A small group is trained intensively
-
They pass training down to larger groups
-
Enables reach across rural and remote schools
Advantage: Scalable
Challenge: Quality
3
Teacher Training Content
Focus is practical and classroom-oriented:
-
Activity-based learning
-
Child-centered pedagogy
-
Multi-grade teaching (common in rural schools)
-
Continuous assessment techniques
-
Use of low-cost teaching aids
4
Classroom Implementation
Teachers are expected to:
-
Apply new strategies in daily lessons
-
Engage students through activities instead of rote learning
-
Adapt lessons to different learning levels
5
Academic Support & Mentoring
Unlike older models, modern programs include continuous support:
-
School visits by Cluster Resource Persons (CRPs)
-
Demonstration classes
-
Peer learning meetings
-
Feedback on teaching practices
6
Monitoring & Evaluation
-
Classroom observations
-
Student learning assessments
-
Teacher performance tracking
Data is used to:
-
Improve training content
-
Identify struggling teachers
-
Adjust teaching strategies
Typical Flow in Government Schools
Plan → Cascade Training → Classroom Practice → Field Support → Assessment →
Simple Example
In a district:
-
Master trainers are trained at state level
-
They train block-level officers
-
Officers train school teachers
-
Monthly visits ensure teachers apply methods
Student learning is tracked and improved
This project aims to create a sustainable improvement in the quality of education by focusing on the most critical factor - Teachers. With proper implementation and collaboration with government authorities, this initiative can significantly enhance student learning outcomes.
